CHURCH HISTORY

First Church of the Nazarene in Dothan, was the first Nazarene congregation organized in southeast Alabama.  The church started from a tent revival in the fall of 1943.  Rev. J.G. Wells and the Singing Speer Family were the workers for this home mission campaign.  District superintendent E.G. Simpson organized the church October 14, 1943 with 13 charter members and appointed Rev. E. Ross Sanders as pastor.  The original church building was located at 403 East Main Street.  Membership had grown to 35 at the time Rev. George W. Ball accepted the church in 1954.  During his ministry, the church grew from 35 to 54 in four years.  Property was purchased at 1001 South Bell Street and the church moved to a new church building in 1958.  The parsonage was also erected on property adjoining the church.

In 1965 the annex was added to the existing building under the pastoral leadership of Joe Ben Cagle.  As a skilled brick mason, Brother Cable did most of the work himself.
